LIONS CLUB
The Morgan Hill Lions club is a non-profit organization
and has been serving the community of Morgan Hill since 1938. The club
is made up of a diverse group of men and women dedicated in helping
those less fortunate and providing the gift of sight and hearing to
those in need. We also provide assistance to needy organizations.
Lions are International and are more than 1.4 million members of men
and women, young and old and in every profession. You will find Lions
in more than 180 countries and geographical areas around the world.
Lions speak dozens of languages and practice many varied customs. Yet
despite this diversity, we all share a common spirit. Since our
beginnings in 1917 we have been united with a single focus: helping
those less fortunate. Lions have never backed away from the tough
problems that plague our brothers and sisters. We have stood fast
against the ravages of blindness, deafness, and diabetes and on the
side of the disabled, underprivileged, elderly and our youth. Millions
of people can see today and can work to support their families because
of the blindness prevention activities of Lions and Lions Clubs
International Foundation.(LCIF). LCIF has granted more than US $200
million for humanitarian service projects to improve the quality of
life for individuals and communities worldwide.
The Morgan Hill Lions do so appreciate the donations and support the
community gives to us by way of contributing to our fundraisers, (White
Cane Days, our Scholarship drive, Annual Pancake Breakfasts, etc). The
public's generous donations help the Lions provide necessary eye exams
and glasses and hearing aids to the needy.
When the citizens of the community donate their used prescription
eyeglasses, the Lions recycle them and then are able to provide the
gift of sight to those in need in underdeveloped countries abroad. The
local Optometrists in Morgan Hill graciously collect used prescription
eyeglasses for the Morgan Hill Lions club. You can drop off any
prescription glasses that you may have to them and the glasses will get
to us. Lions also collect and recycle used hearing aids and cell
phones. You can also deliver glasses and these other items to Lion
Leonard Geraci at Seven Trees Realty on Cosmo in Morgan Hill. For
membership or other information feel free to call 408-268-9619.
Thank you Morgan Hill from your Morgan Hill Lions club for your
continued loyal support and caring.
About Lions International
Lions are volunteer members of clubs grouped under an International
organization,
where they enjoy fellowship, develop their leadership capacities and
dedicate
part of their time free to help those in need all over the world, while
making their individual communities a better place in which to live.
Lionism began in the United States in 1917 when a group of
independent
clubs responded to an ideal presented to them by a young Chicago
insurance
agent, Melvin Jones.
The ideal was one of service as a group to their fellow men without
regard
to politics, religion, race or in any way the personal interests of the
members. This was heralded as a departure from the then current trend
of
forming clubs mainly for commercial motives. A conference was called
and
some 25 independent clubs responded and the Lions organization was born.
From the start, the emphasis has been on sevice in all forms to
less
fortunate members of the community.
